Former Cajuns Guard Jay Wright Picked In First Round Of NBA G League Draft

Picked No. 11 overall by Northern Arizona; rights traded to Lakeland

LAFAYETTE – Former Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns point guard Jay Wright was the 11th player selected in the first round by Northern Arizona in the 2017 NBA G League Draft on Saturday.
 
Wright, who played for the Ragin' Cajuns from 2014-17, was the third player picked by Northern Arizona (NBA G League affiliate for Phoenix) in the first round before having his rights shipped to Lakeland (NBA G League affiliate for Orlando).
 
The 2017 Sun Belt Conference Defensive Player of the Year and a member of the Lefty Driesell Defensive All-America Team, Wright led Louisiana in scoring team in scoring (16.2), assists (3.9) and steals (2.0) while ranking among the league leaders in all three categories. He posted career-best in all offensive categories while starting in all 33 games during the season
 
Wright recorded 12 games with 20 or more points scored, including the Ragin' Cajuns final four games of the season where he averaged 23.5 points. He finished his career with 1,148 points to become the 44th player in school history to reach the 1,000-point mark in his career.
